Project : (DJI Float) Smart Camera Project 2023

A smart camera in the form of a drone for a brand of my choice was created to solve an identified problem with current smart cameras and drones. The problem at hand was the short flying time and noise of current drones used in the application of event aerial photography. For this problem, a unique South African solution was ideated and created, which resulted in a helium-powered drone suspended from balloons in the air while being anchored to the ground with a weight. Creating a free-hanging drone anchored to a specific point with 360-degree camera panning capability and 180-degree camera tilting capability controllable via a mobile phone. As a result of having no propulsion other than helium, a mechanical gyroscope is included in the design to keep the drone stable mid-air. All in all, the design resulted in a drone capable of flying above an event for hours without making a noise, solving the above-mentioned problem above satisfactory.
To conclude, the smart camera DJI Float product is an exceptional product in itself, solving said problems perfectly as well as displaying top-class fit and finish at a university level. It is definitely a proudly South African product and ticks all the boxes of my personal standards as a designer.
